Set in post-WWI Birmingham, England, the story follows a gangster family led by seasoned war veteran Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), who means to move up in the world by any means necessary. Tommy is joined by his brothers Arthur (Paul Anderson) and John (Joe Cole) along with the rest of the Peaky Blinders as they square off with the police, rival gangs, and anyone else who gets in the way of their business.
Creator Steven Knight does a phenomenal job of developing characters and each of their nuances while living under, at times, unendurable circumstances. This series has an incredible arc that leaves the Shelby family determining what is most important to them. There are four seasons (each with six episodes) with the fifth to be released in 2019. The episodes are an hour in length and warrants a TV-MA rating. ‘Peaky Blinders’ features a number of talented performances, most notably by Helen McCrory, Sam Neill, Tom Hardy, Adrien Brody, and Finn Cole. ‘Peaky Blinders’ is available on Netflix, BBC Two, iTunes, and Google Play.
